Case Study

PFAS Impacted Sand Reuse for New Concrete

A site in QLD contained large stockpiles of sandy soils, impacted by PFAS. The volume of contaminated material present meant offsite disposal or treatment was non-viable.

 

The soil was combined with cement & AMBIOLOCK™ to create a stabilised concrete substrate.

Leaching tests were undertaken to assess the level of immobilisation achieved. The test results showed that residual surface PFAS dissipated after 3 days, with concentrations reducing to below drinking water levels and lab detection limits within the first week of testing. Testing extended beyond 6 months and showed that AMBIOLOCK™ achieved total immobilisation of PFAS.
